CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

  • Background of the Study

One of the most important areas of studying pattern of human interaction, functional independence, underlying salvation of relationship at various levels, homes, schools, local, nation and in order that people in various parts of the world may live more harmoniously, a knowledge of the factor underlying tension and conflicts in the school field may be desirable.

Education is a very important aspect in the lives and overall development of the young minds and this has come to be associated with the formal school system.

The family stands out as one of the basic groups which make up a society. Family involves relationship of married pattern that can raise children. They are responsible for rearing attentiveness, attitude, responsibility and other things. Social and economic placements are usually determined by parents’ position at birth and ability carter for the number of children available in a particular family. The home plays a very important role in the life of a child.

Turner (1973), states that one of the main duties of any parent is to equip the child for living and for getting as much as possible out of life. Use have got to teach the child how to benefit from the advantages of being a social animal.

Mangong (1989) said the nature and type of home a child comes from goes a long way in determining the disposition of the child to issues of life.

In many situations, tension, conflict and misunderstanding at the school, local, state, national has been found to be due to socio- economic status of the people.

Looking inwardly, at some internal factors that affect the outlook of a child, there are other factors such as attitude to work; lack of quality and qualified teachers and inadequate learning materials affects academic achievement of students the number of children in the family place a major role on the quality of the parents to the problem a child is facing academically and the level of standard of living a child coping with. The separation of the parents will not allow their children to enjoy much needed attention, support, and love from his or her parents.

According to Bouden (1982), if there were sub- cultural differences between classes, the very fact is that the people stay at different position in the class system because inadequate educational opportunities as disadvantages of creating difference in social class and this may bring about depression on performance of the children.

More number of children in a large family are competing parents’ attention in support. It is the kind of condition the child faces at homes that reflect on the overall outlook of a child from standard of living, academic performance and even to work on anything he does in life.

Observations have shown that the home is the first place where a child is socialized. It determines child’s attitudes, experience, characteristics and the life style and the extent to which the individual child achieve his objective and aspiration. Stanleyeitzen D. (1974), state that evidence to education is clear and irrefutable of God “ be multiplied and fruitful” home is made of father, the mother and the children this group must work together before they can achieve their goals despite ordinance of the creator, many marriages break down as discovered that after a while, things will fall apart.

At home between the couples, in some cases a child learns many valuable things and habits from their parents. In fact many broken home these days are seen to have adverse affect on academic performance of children tertiary institutions.

Parents are the foundation of the home they should therefore make themselves as one body so that the training of their children will be effective. Some people marry in order to have the assistance of their other partner as tow good heeds are better than one. Parents are the guidance and they fail to do their work as required, they will not be able to counsel their children and this can lead to misunderstanding which will eventually cause broken home.
