Background of the Study
Education is a highly rated public venture used as an instrument par excellence in natural development. Also education is a process of receiving or given systemic instruction especially at school or university a new system of public education. According to Fafunwa (2004). Education is an aggregation of all the process by means which a person develop abilities and other forms of behaviour of positive value in the society in which he lives. Education is a life-life long process that is, the process of renewing or updating knowledge to ensure job security, effective social, political and economic participation continuous individual growth and development. (Nzenam, 2008). According to Igbo (2008) Education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its cultural heritage through institution such as a school, college and universities. It also prepare a person to perform justify, skillfully and magnanimously in war or at peace on the bases of acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes. Education is the process of remarking experience giving it more socialized value through increased individual experience by giving the individual better control over his own power. Ozochi (2009).
A teacher is a person who had undergone approved professional training in education at the appropriate level capable of imparting knowledge, attitudes and skills to students. (Tolman’s 2010). Kosemani (2013) defines a teacher as a person specifically selected trained and educated for the job of dispending knowledge to others according to their needs and capabilities. He explained that teacher must see himself as the provider of learning opportunities and necessary guidance which will help to increase the quality and quantity of learning acquired by the students he act as a moderator between the learner and the object of knowledge.
There is a great deal of literature that provides substantial evidence that strong relationship between teacher and students are essential components to the healthy academic development of all students in schools (Hanme and Planta, 2001; Eccles and Wigfield 2002). This body of literature involves several genres of research that has been conducted over the past three decades.
Investigating the interaction between teachers and their students and what effects those interactor have on learning. There is credible evidence that the native and quality of teachers interactions with pupils has a significant effect on their learning. (Brophy-Herb and Stollak 2007) Bryant, Early Clifford and Oscar).
Downey (2008) conducted a study synthesizing educational research on factors that affect academic performance. The rationale for the study was to examine classroom practice that made a difference for all students. The recommendation from Downwey analysis were that students need teachers to build strong interpersonal relationship with their focusing on the strength of the students while maintaining high and realistic expectation for success.
